The rally cry of Alta’s faithful has stood strong for more than 90 years, hurdling obstacles such as court hearings, protests and a skier-snowboard rivalry that is so engrained in this mountain’s culture that kids have to pick their allegiances soon after they start walking.
For all the weirdness that 2020 brought the Peruvian and Alta in general, snowboarding may have just been the cherry on top–of Alf’s High Rustler. Because the lodges and lifts closed early for the season in March of 2020, Alta was open to uphill traffic. So thrill-seeking snowboarders saw this as opportunity to finally ride Alta, some for the “first” time.
What came next was an unusual and unwelcome (depending on who you ask) sight to be seen. Silver Linings, a short film produced by Mountain Gazette, is a must-watch for the snowboarders who’ve dreamed about what it would be like to try out Alta and all its untouched pow glory.
The film includes shots from the genesis of Alta, people who’ve been here seemingly since then and some neat vintage tapes featuring yours truly. Take 13 minutes and enjoy the history, characters and insane runs that make our home The Best Snow on Earth.
