While most guests tend to think of fun days on the ski slopes when they think of the Alta Peruvian Lodge, some visitors have chosen to make their favorite ski lodge the place they say “I do.” The lodge, which can accommodate a wedding of up to 200 guests, is surrounded by epic mountains, lush greenery and beautiful wildflowers — the perfect setting for a fairytale wedding. Here, Todd Collins, General Manager of the Peruvian — and aficionado of all things wedding at the lodge — shares some of his wedding insight for those who are considering a walk down the aisle at 8,500 feet.
Q. What makes weddings at the Alta Peruvian Lodge so unique?
A. Certainly, the ceremony setting. Our lawn is perfectly situated to allow majestic Mount Superior to be the backdrop for the bride and groom, which is unique — even within Alta. Another aspect that sets us apart is the fact that we only schedule one wedding per weekend, so the planners and decorators can have access days before and after each event to do what they need to do. This also means there are never any time limits on the ceremony and reception. It’s this flexibility and total accommodation that the bride and groom truly appreciate.
Q. How many weddings has the Peruvian hosted?
A. In my 20 years at the Peruvian, I’ve seen around 200 weddings. We have 20 wedding booked for 2017, and that is the most I have ever seen in one season. We are very excited! One bride told us: “If you are looking for a rustic, mountain venue with an outdoor ceremony site, this is the place for you,” and I absolutely agree.
Q. Any memorable Peruvian wedding stories or memories to share?
A. Many of our receptions are casual events, with a lot of lawn games and revelry. One year, the bride and groom were going for a carnival feel, and rented a dunk tank for the groom and members of the wedding party to climb in and let guests try to dunk them. It was hysterical.
