Pausing at the Peruvian is one of my favorite things to do. It’s my time to reset and enjoy the company of my favorite female skiing friends. We gather to ski, laugh, and soak in the hot tubs. I’ve been going for four years straight now and every year is a new experience in my favorite slopeside haunt. The women who join come and go out of the mix every year, but they all know they are welcome, and most long to return to the Peruvian, but due to outside Peruvian-life conflicts, may not be able to join us. It’s also a novelty to be a female at the Peruvian – let’s face it! As a group, we enjoy it as much as the men and families who stay there. I look forward to it every year, and 2016 will be no exception!
I cherish the time I have on the slopes and at the Peruvian every year. Alta is a special place. The majestic views, the snow that ideally falls while on the slopes or the eve before, the freshly baked cookies, and the gourmet meals are all things I look forward to. Especially the three full days of skiing I pack in. In my everyday busy-ness of life, the Peruvian is a time-out I take for myself, or what I call a “Pause.” It’s not about how long I’m there, although weeks at a time would be awesome. It’s about how I chose to spend my time there and who I’m with. The time away from my day-to-day life lets me reflect on whatever is going on, and take a few deep breaths (even more challenging at altitude) and reset. I remember I’m only there for a few days and to make the most of it. I allow my mind to quite a bit, and the timeliness, friendly atmosphere of my favorite lodge in Alta allows me to do so.
Where will you pause today, tomorrow, or in 2016 ski season? I hope a Peruvian Pause is on your list.
